What is hot tire pickup, and why does it happen?

Hot tire pickup is a coating lifting off the slab in the shape of the tires. The floor looks fine everywhere else, which is what makes it so recognisable and so annoying: the failure is confined to the two strips a car sits on.

Two things the tire itself is doing

All Garage Floors adds two contributors that are easy to miss. Modern tires carry plasticizers that keep the rubber flexible, and heat drives those out of the tire and into the coating, where they soften it. Separately, paraffin from tire treatments builds up in the parking spot over years and works its way into the concrete, where it becomes a bond breaker under any coating applied later. Grind the slab, do not just clean it

Mechanical grinding opens a surface profile the coating can key into, and takes off the tire residue, sealer and curing compound that would otherwise sit between the coating and the concrete. Put the right resin on top
